Kentucky Christian University (KCU) is pleased to announce the appointment of Russ Cassidy as the new Women’s Volleyball Coach. Russ Cassidy brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having served as KCU’s Volleyball Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for the past three years. Cassidy also served as the Assistant Coach for the KCU Softball team for the same period.

Prior to joining KCU, Cassidy was the Ashland Middle School Softball Head Coach and Ashland Paul Blazer High School Assistant Coach. He graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Political Science Minor in 1990. Cassidy was a member of the EKU Men’s Club Volleyball Team, and he also worked as a sports writer for The Times Tribune in Corbin, KY, covering the 1990 National League Playoffs and World Series, Union College, Cumberland University, and local high school sports.

In a statement, Cassidy said, “I’m excited and humbled to accept this position. I want to thank Dave Manning, Jeremy Miller, the search committee, Dr. Alcorn, and the entire Kentucky Christian University Administration. It will be our goal to provide our players the very best volleyball experience while helping each one grow in their faith. We are also committed to continuing to help grow our campus culture by recruiting the very best Christian athletes. Above all, I want to thank God for this opportunity because without Him and for the blood of Jesus Christ, none of this would be possible!”

Cassidy’s extensive experience in coaching, recruiting, and playing volleyball, combined with his commitment to the growth of Christian athletes, makes him an excellent fit for KCU. The university is thrilled to welcome Cassidy to the KCU Athletics Department and looks forward to the future successes of the Women’s Volleyball program under his leadership.

For over a century, KCU has been transforming the hearts and minds of students through a Christ-Centered academic community that is both academically rigorous and intimately personal. We are committed to providing students with an authentic Christian education that engages students in a transformative educational experience that equips them as effective Christian professionals providing servant leadership for the church and society. We are convinced that ministry is the responsibility of all Christ-followers and have therefore intentionally integrated faith and education in such a way that allows each of our students to find their purpose in Christ.
