The Power of a Christian Teacher
KCU Alum, Ethel Bush, Honored Through a Generous Gift
The heart of the campus of Kentucky Christian University is undergoing a significant transformation thanks to a generous gift of $500,000.
The gift was motivated by the donor’s desire to honor their favorite childhood teacher and lifelong mentor, Ethel Bush. Ms. Bush was one of the first students to enroll at KCU when it was first established in 1919 as Christian Normal Institute. Ms. Bush received her teaching credentials and began teaching in Greenup County in a one-room school at the age of 17.
She said teachers such as J.W. Lusby, J.O. Snodgrass and R.B. Neal shaped her life and she in turn tried to influence the lives of her own students through what she had been taught. In 1995, she was the recipient of the Lusby Award, the highest award of distinction and honor given by KCU.
So impressed was the donor by the fondness with which Ms. Bush represented KCU that they knew there was no better place than the campus she held so dear for a lasting tribute. The donor relayed what a blessing it was to have a Christian teacher like Ms. Bush impact them so deeply during their developmental years and, in their note accompanying the gift, said, “Teaching young people about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is the paramount belief they need to know to become Godly men and women who will spread the word of Jesus locally and around the world.”
Praise God for this wonderful blessing that will powerfully impact the KCU campus experience! The groundbreaking for this important project took place on Tuesday, September 1.
