KCU’s Gail Wise, KBN President
Kentucky Christian University Faculty elected President of the Kentucky Board of Nursing
In April 2015, Dr. Gail Wise, EdD, RN-BC, Professor of Nursing at Kentucky Christian University, was elected president of the Kentucky Board of Nursing and will serve as president during 2015-2016. The mission of the Kentucky Board of Nursing is to protect the well-being of the public by development and enforcement of state laws governing the safe practice of nursing, nursing education, and credentialing. Gail was first appointed to the Board in 2004 by Governor Ernie Fletcher and reappointed by Governor Steve Beshear. Her name was submitted to the Governor’s office by the Kentucky Nurses Association, the professional nursing organization that promotes the role of the registered nurse in health care delivery and serves as an advocate for quality patient care in all settings.
Dr. Wise has worked in multiple counties throughout the Commonwealth and worked in several positions that required extensive travel throughout Kentucky. Those opportunities along with over 40 years of nursing offer experiences to help deal with challenges nursing currently faces. Gail has practiced nursing in a variety of settings but has spent the last 28 years practicing primarily in nursing and allied health care education and administration.
She noted that her most rewarding accomplishment was starting the Kentucky Christian University Yancey School of Nursing Baccalaureate Nursing Program. Kentucky Christian University is a private, non-profit Christian university located in Eastern Kentucky that offers an academically rigorous Christ-Centered environment and affords the opportunity for low faculty to student ratios. Students receive very personal instruction from faculty and frequent advising. Faculty knows students by name and supports student success.
Gail has been honored as an outstanding alumnus for her accomplishments and contributions within the Commonwealth by the University of Kentucky College of Nursing, received the Yancey School of Nursing Faculty Award, has received funding for numerous research grants, and published several articles. She is an active member of Blue Licks Christian Church, and volunteers for the American Heart Association.
Dr. Wise holds an EdD in Health Promotion, a MSN in Adult Health with an education component, and a BSN from the University of Kentucky. She also holds certification in public/community health nursing through the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Dr. Wise has lived in Kentucky her entire life and resided in May’s Lick, KY for over 35 years. Gail is married to Tom Wise.
