Digital Library of Appalachia

The Digital Library of Appalachia provides online access to archival and historical materials related to the culture of the southern and central Appalachian region. The contents of the DLA are drawn from special collections of Appalachian College Association member libraries.

Kentucky Christian University is a participant in the DLA. Our first collection consists of a collection of approximately 200 3.35″ x 4″ glass “magic lantern” slides produced between 1915 and 1945. These slides were used for fundraising and promotion presentations for Christian Normal Institute (later Kentucky Chrstian College, Kentucky Christian University) in Grayson, Ky. Subjects include church buildings, Christian congregations, everyday life in rural Appalachia, portraits, local advertising and scenes from the Mountain Industrial Institute in Grundy, VA, as well as CNI buildings, staff, students and campus life.

Access to the DLA resources is free to everyone. Click on the links below to locate information on the Appalachian region.

Christ-Centered Vision

“The Christ-centered vision of KCU both connected me with people whose influence has shaped me to this day and gave me a foundation in ministry-effectiveness for which I am extremely thankful.”
