FAQ:
Do graduates need to be at Commencement rehearsal? Yes! It’s very important that graduates attend the rehearsal at the designated time.

Are graduates required to attend Commencement? No, but we do ask that you RSVP so that we know whether or not to expect you.

How many people can attend? Due to social distancing requirements, we are limiting each graduate to two guests inside the gymnasium. Each guest is asked to self-monitor for COVID symptoms 14 days prior to Commencement. The RSVP google form will allow additional guests to be added to a waitlist. If seats become available in the gymnasium we will contact you. We will live stream the ceremony across the street in the chapel for anyone that is interested in watching there. The ceremony will also be streamed on livestream.com/kcu

When do graduates need to be ready for the processional line up? We will meet in the cafeteria at 9:30am (for the 10am ceremony) and 1:30pm (for the 2:00pm ceremony)
 Space
What about the cap/gown? 2021 graduates will pick up their cap/gown on Friday, May 7th at Senior Celebration. Watch for more details in the coming weeks. 2020 graduates should bring their cap, gown, tassel, honor cords, and Master’s hoods.

What should I wear underneath my gown? Graduates should wear dress clothes, including dress shoes. Masks will be required of all of those in attendance, including graduates.

When will graduates receive their diploma? Graduates will receive an empty diploma cover when walking across the stage on commencement day. We will mail diplomas to their recipients after graduation day. The diploma will not be released if the student owes money to the University, hasn’t completed a financial aid exit, or completed necessary coursework. (2020 graduates should already have their diplomas and will return their empty diploma covers after the ceremony)

How do I know what honors I will receive? For 2021 graduates: Honors listed in the commencement program are calculated based on your cumulative GPA at the end of the Fall 2020 semester. (Summa Cum Laude: 4.0, Magna Cum Laude 3.75-3.99, Cum Laude 3.5-3.74.) Final grades are due on May 12th. If there is a change in honor status, it will be reflected on the official transcript. The honors for 2020 graduates are official because the degree has already been conferred.

PREPARED TO GO MAKE DISCIPLES

“Thank you Dr. Brickey for pouring so much time, love, and effort into my education to make sure that I became a nurse that is prepared to go make disciples for Christ. I will forever be grateful to you and the Yancey School of Nursing.”
